-
Spot 3 is the free throw line, where players stand to shoot a free throw.
-
Spot 4 is the half way line and the centre circle, which are used for jump balls at the start of the game and each overtime period.
-
Spot 5 is the 3 point line, where players need to shoot beyond for a 3-point play.
Official Rules
Double Dribble: A double dribble is a violation in basketball that occurs when a player stops dribbling the ball, holds it, and then starts dribbling again or dribbles with both hands at the same time, this will result in the opposite team having possession.
Travel: A travel is a violation that occurs when a player moves one or both feet illegally. Specifically, it happens when a player holding the ball takes more than two steps without dribbling, when a player with the ball slides or shuffles their feet without dribbling or when the player jumps and does not release the ball.
Carry: Carrying is a violation that occurs when a player momentarily holds or "carries" the ball while dribbling. This typically happens when the player's hand is under the ball rather than on top of it during a dribble.
Out of Bounds: "out of bounds" refers to the area beyond the boundary lines of the court. These boundary lines include the sidelines and the baseline. If a player or the ball touches or crosses these boundary lines, they are considered out of bounds. When a player or the ball goes out of bounds, possession is awarded to the opposing team. Additionally, if the ball touches any part of the out-of-bounds area, possession is also awarded to the opposing team.
Shot Clock Violation: A shot clock Violation is called when a team fails to shoot the ball in les than 24 seconds. If a foul happens within the last 14 seconds the shot clock will be put back to 14 when play continues.
Five Second violation: A five second violation is called when the team inbounding the ball can not get it back into play after 5 seconds, if so possession will be awarded to the opposing team, the same rule will still apply.
8 Second Violation: A eight second violation is called when a team does not pass the half way line within eight seconds if so possession will be awarded to the opposing team.
Backcourt Violation: A backcourt violation is when the team on offence goes back past the halfway line with the ball after already having crossed it in that possession.
